The world of an entrepreneur seems frantic.
It can be exhausting just reading about other people's journeys and all the hustle they did to get where they are, and all the hustle they still do to stay there and keep moving.
Makes it seem like that's the only way to get anywhere. Hustle. Work your ass off. Say motivated, and just. don't. stop.
And so either you do that, you make your plans and your stick to them, and you push through it. Or it makes you feel like may be you don't have what it takes because you just don't want that, that busyness, that hustle, so may be you can never succeed.
But we are missing something in the busyness.
People think that because that's what they did to get where they are, then that's the way it has to happen.
To uncover the gold that finally brought them success (and hopefully more ease, eventually) they look back at everything they did, how hard they pushed themselves, and assume that it was all equally necessary
But what if you could have that ease now and still find the gold as well?
It's like having a field, and you know the treasure is buried there somewhere - there's two ways to go about it. You could start digging up the whole field, day in day out, hoping you find it sooner rather than later. (And we might, if we don't burn out before that happens.)
But what if instead of that busyness, you had a map, and you could walk straight to the spot and just dig there?
You still have to dig for the gold, it won't just unbury itself. But imagine how much different that digging would be - how much more ease and excitement you would feel, knowing that what you are doing has purpose and WILL be fruitful and bring you to your goal?
Wouldn't we choose that option?
Well - you do have a map to the gold. It's your intuition. It's your soul's voice.
And if you haven't heard it guiding you, it could be because of the busyness that's drowning it out.
We look back at what we did to get somewhere, and assume it was all necessary. Or even if we think maybe it wasn't all necessary, we aren't exactly sure what was and what wasn't. And so when we want to repeat that success, we just do it the same way all over again - because we don't want to miss the things that really counted.
And it may not be all horrible - we may actually enjoy a lot of it. If we are working on something we are passionate about, that is aligned with our purpose, then even busyness can feel fun and exciting. But it is not sustainable. If you are working so hard that other parts of your life suffer, you will not be able to keep that up long term.
And if you are being put off even starting - starting that business, or creating thing, or bringing that idea to life - because you think it is just inevitable that it takes busyness and you just don't think you can do it... then take heart.
Just because it seems like what everyone else is doing, being slaves to productivity - it doesn't has to be like that.
You can do the work that aligns with your soul, reach the results you really dream of, AND do it in a way that aligns with who you are too.
And I'm not kidding on this. I live and breathe this in everything I do. I don't resonate with the word 'hustle.' I live for ease.
But I am just as passionate as the next entrepreneur, my dreams and goals are just as big, and I am not lazy about going after them.
But I just do it in a way that eliminates unnecessary busyness.
So how do you achieve more by doing less?
- Practice listening to your inner voice (your intuition.) Maybe you call it your gut instinct. But we all have it. An inner knowing. We are connected to life and when we listen, it is guiding us all the time.
What does it feel like? It feels like fun, it feels alive, it feels light.
If you think about what feels fun, alive and light, vs what feels heavy and burdensome, that is a pretty good indication of what direction you should be heading in, what you should be saying yes or no to.
You fear not doing all the busy stuff, because what if it means you fail? But what if by letting go of all the busy stuff, all the heavy stuff, all the striving, you actually opened yourself up to hear the really alive stuff so clearly, you can just go for it?
- Practice TRUSTING that inner voice.
Hearing it is one thing. But once we hear it, we've got to practice not immediately shutting it down.
We shut it down when we go, "Yeah, but..."
"Yeah, but what about this, what about our responsibilities, what about money, what about all these reasons it might be hard, or scary, or challenging?"
But if you practice trusting your intuition, your soul's call, your inner voice, you will start to discover the path it takes you on is a lot less scary and holds a lot more ease and possibility than you can yet imagine.
And it could be telling you, you'll be better off if you let go of all this stuff you think you need and must do and should be - and what you'll gain is lightness, creativity and flow.
- Find the message in procrastination.
If you find yourself putting something off, delaying it, wishing you didn't have to do it - instead of pushing through that, listen to the message in it.
Your soul is trying to tell you something. Maybe it's that you're working yourself too hard and you need rest. Maybe it's that you're pushing too hard in the wrong direction. Maybe it's that there's something you don't know yet, and if you just waited to let that message come through, you would find a new direction, a new flow, and things would progress with ease.
I can't tell you the number of times I've been procrastinating on a project, so stopped to listen to the message in that, and then had a new idea or new connection arise that takes it a different - and better - direction than where I would have gone if I'd just pushed through.
And there's also been plenty of times where I have pushed through, done it because I thought I should, only to find I missed the better idea. Or it came through in the end, but now I have to backtrack and redo things, so it ends up being twice the amount of work.
- Get clear on your real goals & core values.
How do you really want to feel when you reach your goals? What is it you are really working towards?
I'd bet your real goal isn't just to make money for money's sake. And I'd definitely bet your goal is not to feel this stressed and overworked and like you had to sell out to get noticed.
Your real goal is probably something like - to feel secure, to work less & spend more time with family, to have more freedom, to feel purpose in every day.
Well, what if you dared to feel those things NOW?
What if, instead of working yourself so hard in pursuit of a future feeling, a future ease, you dared to let that be a reality now, and let go of everything that doesn't serve that?
Create space for that. Imagine that future self - how are you working, how are you feeling, how do you go about your day to feel that ease, that rest and that freedom? How is everything that future you is doing and being aligned with your true values? (and not working against them for the sake of 'success.')
Live like that future you now.
It's not a lack of direction or commitment.
Sometimes waiting and listening is the most productive thing you can do!
Give yourself space to hear and feel what is alive and right for you as the next step. If you are just always busy and on the go, you can so easily miss the subtle nudges.
We've been trained to feel like if we aren't busy, if we aren't working hard every minute, then we won't earn success, or won't deserve it if we do.
But that is the lie of productivity. That more is always better. That striving and hustle is the only way to get what we want and be deserving of wealth and success and happiness.
But the truth is, if you are aligned, if you are in balance, if you are in-tune with what your soul is really wanting, then that is when true productivity happens. That is when the best results happen. When we feel passionate AND balanced AND at ease, we still work with dedication at what we truly want - but we don't do all the unnecessary stuff that burns us out.
Instead, things fall into place. We look at the options, and choose with clarity the thing that will take us forward, and let go of everything else. We are led to the decisions, the people and the projects that are really what we want.
You'll work like it's play, rest when you want to, go with the cycles of your life and body, and not feel guilty about any of it!
It's not about working hard vs being lazy - it's about working in alignment vs pushing through. It's about working in flow vs trying to wrangle life into submission.
Working with ease is still being committed - it's just firmly committed to your soul first. And everything else flows from that.
And that's the real work. The rest is secondary. And busyness is a distraction from what really counts.
Are you listening to your soul?
It's always telling us what we truly want and how to get it, we just don't always recognise it. (Listen now, before it shouts at you. Before something big comes along to force you to pay attention.)
If you are currently striving but wondering if there isn't a better way, or if you haven't even begun because just the thought of it makes you feel exhausted - then you ARE listening to that inner voice right now.
Take notice! Don't push it away. Don't get discouraged, but take it as a gift and a possibility. There is a different way!
Don't let the old story sweep you up again, the one that says you're not worthy of good things unless you're running yourself into the ground to get them.
If you listen, your body knows the right way. The way that works for you. You don't have to do it like anyone else, follow anyone else's blueprint, or anyone else's 'rules' - trust that guidance you are already feeling.
